The Council of Vas County is a regional administrative unit. Councils were formed in socialist Hungary in 1949 to represent the central government on the regional and local levels. Councils had area-specific departments and were allocated annual budgets.

After 1989, county councils were renamed county assemblies, and they became the organs of regional self-governance.
