Millenáris Park, Budapest

Samizdat, an exhibition organized by the Forschungsstelle Osteuropa in Bremen, devoted to a cultural phenomenon peculiar to Central and Eastern Europe during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, i.e. the alternative culture that emerged in the illegal intellectual and artistic milieu under communist dictatorships. The 400 or so exhibits, including typed and printed books, posters, flyers, photographs, art albums, paintings, and sculptures of the Bremen collection, presented the political, cultural, literary, and artistic opposition in Hungary, Poland, the former Czechoslovakia, the GDR, and the Soviet Union. The exhibition material, previously showcased in Berlin (2000), Prague, and Brussels (2002), could be seen in Budapest, supplemented with documents and works added from the material of the Artpool Art Research Center.
